Meet the Contributors

Unplug the consoles and unfold the boards!  It’s time to play some tabletop games!

My name is Austin Kennedy.  I am a former film critic that has recently got into the board gaming hobby.  Being an obsessive person and never being able to casually get into something, I have decided to start my own site, complete with a consistently updated release schedule for upcoming games, news and reviews.  I plan on doing video as well as written reviews.  I plan on taking on other contributors as well, so if you’re interested please contact me.

I have a 12 year old daughter.  I run a board game club at a middle school in St. Paul.  My goal is to share my passion of tabletop gaming with as many people as possible, whether it’s getting new people into the hobby or sharing my experiences with veteran gamers.

With video game consoles and mobile devices taking over the attention of adults and kids alike, my goal is to introduce them to the hobby of board games.  No need for batteries.  No need to charge anything.  The ancient art of interaction with friends and family is becoming lost with all of this new technology.  It’s time for people to connect with each other again, and tabletop gaming is one of the best ways to do that.  I love the way these games allow you to connect and interact with people.  And it’s special when you share it with your friends and family.  So that’s my project.  Making the world UNPLUGGED!

I also want this site to have an updated release schedule for upcoming games.  I have tried finding a calendar at various different sites, but all the ones I have found aren’t updated often or aren’t accurate.  Because release dates constantly change, this schedule won’t be 100% accurate, but my goal is to be one of the first sites to have all the dates in one place, so one won’t have to skim Coolstuffinc for hours just to find out what’s coming out for the remainder of the year.  Here, you can just look at one place.

This is my first time running a site, and I know nothing about computers and technology.  So I apologize if the site isn’t the best cosmetically, but I hope that the content will entertain and inform you.  If you would like to help me with artwork, logos, or anything else involving the site, any kind of input would be appreciated.

Hi!  I’m James.  When I was young, I often played checkers with my dad. I also played the games popular with kids at that time–Stratego, Clue, Monopoly, and more. During my teens I
was most interested in roleplaying games; I’ve played several editions of Dungeons & Dragons (I look back with affection on the basic red-, blue-, and green-box sets from TSR), some GURPs titles, Heroes Unlimited, and several other games for varied lengths of time. I also loved Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books. For a few years after high school I was part of a group of people that played Risk regularly. I’m a poorer-than-average chess player, and I despise Go.

I didn’t play any sort of tabletop, roleplaying, or computer game for several years. I was re-introduced to the hobby by friends a few years ago. My gateway back was Lords of Waterdeep. Now I play and enjoy all kinds of tabletops. My friend Austin has an impressive collection of games and hosts regularly at his place.  My own collection is small, but it’s growing.

I have also been a regular contributor to the High & Low(brow) podcast at since 2009.  The site’s editor Matt Gamble and I talk movies of all kinds, from historical period dramas to splatter films.  My interest in the hobby of tabletop gaming has grown during these past few years, and I hope to share my thoughts with you on the games that I play and meet some new people to play games with.  You can find me on BGG under the name teafool445!
